If your bathroom is in need of a makeover but you don’t know where you’ll find the budget, you probably need some creative ways to stretch your wallet. Bathroom remodels come after kitchen remodels in cost and can be a serious investment if you aren’t prepared. Instead of focusing on what you can’t afford, why not use these helpful tips to save money on your bathroom remodeling project. From adding color and natural light to simple decorative touches, you will love how your new bathroom makeover just saved you money and still looks like a new bathroom to retreat to.

Use color and light to improve your bathroom:

While you may think by knocking out a wall to increase square footage in your bathroom is the only way to make it look bigger, think again. Instead of moving walls, and punching window holes try adding a fresh new color to your bathroom. Lighter colors will make it feel bigger and solar tubes can be installed to let light in from the roof or an exterior wall. Consider installing white or lighter colored beadboard or a tile wainscoting to add additional lighter surfaces. You will be surprised how much you will save and how larger your bathroom will instantly feel.

Accessorize to match your budget:

The great part about remodeling is that there is a project to fit every budget. If you can only afford a few additions, why not add wall decals, artwork, an accent wall painted behind your sink wall or decorative baskets for towels and toiletries. If your budget can afford more, consider changing bathroom sink, tub and shower plumbing fixtures and lighting. If you’d like a total change to your bathroom but can’t afford to gut out and start anew, try replacing the vanity cabinetry and install new sinks. New mirrors, or just a fresh new backsplash behind your current sinks can transform your bathroom without sinking a hole in your bathroom remodeling budget.

Before you start taking out a second mortgage for your bathroom remodel, assess you current budget and your bathroom for what are priority items and what are areas that can wait until another time. Remember your bathroom could be enhanced with these simple ideas and you may realize that a full out bathroom remodel isn’t necessary at all.  The options are yours and your bathroom remodel could be closer to reality than you once thought.
